Bringing the World Home

For students aged 14 to 19

A unique English language program will take place next summer on the campus of St. Andrew’s Priory School in Honolulu, Hawaii, administered by the International Hospitality Center.  The four-week session will be offered from July 18 to August 14, 2010.  The course is designed to meet the needs of beginning, intermediate, and advanced students, ages 14 to 19, thus allowing participants to start at any level and make rapid progress according to individual needs.  Small class size ensures individualized attention.  Classes will be held five days per week from 8 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. (a total of 18 hours of instruction per week). Daily afternoon excursions will take place from 12:30 to 3:45 p.m.

The International Hospitality Center, a private, non-profit, volunteer, community organization will provide homestays for a limited number of qualified participants.  Host families will include the student as a member of the family – not as a formal guest – and in family activities.  Senior Division students may also live with a parent/guardian (please note there is no change in price in this case).  Participants will have an opportunity to explore the island of O’ahu, sightsee, enjoy the beach, and make rapid progress in English language studies.

The English Language/IHC Homestay Program includes an airport welcome, orientation, pre- and post-testing, counseling and support, group excursions (for example, Polynesian Cultural Center, catamaran cruise, Arizona Memorial/Pearl Harbor, etc.) and a Farewell Dinner and Graduation Ceremony.

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants successfully completing the program.

What’s included?

The program includes tuition, weekday/afternoon group excursions, graduation ceremony and farewell dinner and either a four-week homestay or an optional weekend homestay.

The participant is responsible for all international travel expenses to and from Hawaii, travel documents (visa, passport, etc.) and health/accident insurance (required of all participants throughout the duration of the program) and transportation to and from school.  Students will also be expected to bring sufficient spending money to cover personal expenses, emergency expenditures, and any debts incurred while in the State of Hawaii.  (Host Families will provide basic room and board and involvement in family activities.  Special events, excursions, or activities beyond the program described above are the responsibility of the participant.)
