Bringing the World Home

For students aged 5 to 13

A unique English language program for elementary and middle school students will take place next summer on the campus of St. Andrew’s Priory School in Honolulu, Hawaii, administered by the International Hospitality Center.  The four-week session will be offered from July 18 to August 14, 2010.  The course is designed to meet the needs of beginning, intermediate, and advanced students, ages 5 to 13, thus allowing participants to start at any level and make rapid progress according to individual needs.  Small class size ensures individualized attention.  Classes will be held five days per week from 8 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. (a total of 18 hours of instruction per week). Students have the opportunity to take part in seven group excursions from 12:30 to 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Students must reside with a parent or guardian.

The International Hospitality Center, a private, non-profit, volunteer, community organization will provide one “optional” weekend homestay for students 11 to 13 years old, upon request.  Host families will include the student as a member of the family – not as a formal guest – and in family activities.

The English Language/IHC Homestay Program includes an orientation, pre- and post-testing, counseling and support, group excursions (for example, Sea Life Park, catamaran cruise, Waikiki Zoo, matinee movie, ice skating, etc.) and a Farewell Dinner and Graduation Ceremony.

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants successfully completing the program.

What’s included:

The program includes tuition, seven afternoon group excursions, lunch five days per week, graduation ceremony and farewell dinner and an optional weekend homestay.

Participants must reside with a parent or guardian in Hawaii. Parents are responsible for all international travel expenses to and from Hawaii, travel documents (visa, passport, etc.) and health/accident insurance (required of all participants throughout the duration of the program) and transportation to and from school. Host Families will provide basic room and board and involvement in family activities for one weekend, if the weekend homestay is chosen.
